PULLMAN, WA — Trick-or-treating, costume contests, spooky stops and a bumping plaza party will commence this month as part of the Downtown Pullman Association’s annual Downtown Vibes: Trick-or-Treat.

Downtown Vibes: Trick-or-Treat, formerly Harvest Festival, will be 3-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28 and is a free family-friendly event open to all community members with festivities for any ages, including pets. The event will include trick-or-treating at more than 40 businesses throughout downtown and various “spooky stops” featuring food, drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and other Halloween-themed activities along with an artist and makers market in Pine Street Plaza.

Community members are encouraged to fully embrace the spirit of Halloween, dressing in their best costume — purchased or created — and participate in a five-category costume contest at High Street Plaza. Registration for the contest will be 3-4 p.m. with judging beginning at 4:15 p.m. and winners announced at 5:45 p.m. Categories include: Kids 12 and under, Teens 13-18, Adults 18+, Group and Pets. A winner for Best Overall Costume will also be chosen and can be selected from any category.

A plaza party featuring Pullman’s own DJ Goldfinger will set the stage for the costume contest and serve as a starting point for participants wanting to get a full rundown of the Downtown Vibes: Trick-or-Treat. The plaza party will also include food courtesy of Lumberyard Food Hall and an awards ceremony for costume contest winners. Winners will receive prizes thanks to local businesses and be included in a group photo. The awards ceremony and plaza party are open to all community members and event goers.

An event check-in and information table will be stationed at High Street Plaza near the backdoor of the Downtown Pullman Association’s Office, located at 126 S. Grand Ave., where participants can pick up a comprehensive list of trick-or-treat locations, spooky stops and other activities. Wayfinding signage throughout downtown can also be followed to find the fun that will span along Main Street from Grand Avenue to Spring Street and all the side roads in between.

Businesses participating in the trick-or-treat will have “Trick-or-Treat Here” signs displayed on storefronts. Treats besides the traditional candy, such as stickers, spooky toys and more, will be among the items handed out by businesses during the trick-or-treat in an effort to include an increased number of community members.
